HC Deb 01 June 1916 vol 82 cc2888-9
35. Mr. CROOKS

asked the Minister of Munitions whether he is aware that inconvenience is being caused to skilled munition workers by reason of landlords obtaining orders of ejectment against them; and whether he can consider the feasibility of issuing a Regulation under the Defence of the Realm Act forbidding the ejectment of workmen residing in munition areas, certified as being skilled workmen on munitions, provided they have not committed any breach of the conditions of their tenancy?

The PARLIAMENTARY (MILITARY) SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of MUNITIONS (Colonel Lee)

The cases to which my right hon. Friend refers are to some extent met by the provisions of Section 1 (3) of the Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (War Restrictions) Act, 1915, but the exceptions provided have in some cases had unfortunate results which could, I fear, only be prevented by an amendment of the Act.
