HC Deb 01 June 1916 vol 82 c2882
23. Mr. LYNCH

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether a censorship is in operation in regard to Australia to such a degree that the OFFICIAL REPORTS of Debates in this House are withheld from those to whom they are addressed in Australia; and whether telegraphic agencies which colour news to suit political purposes are under any kind of control by the Government?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Bonar Law)

I have no information to the effect suggested in the first part of the hon. Member's question. All telegrams from this country are subject to censorship here.

Mr. LYNCH

If such a state of things did arise as is indicated in the first part of the question would the right hon. Gentleman know of it?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is purely a hypothetical question.
