HC Deb 01 June 1916 vol 82 c2905
70. Mr. WHITTY

asked the Postmaster-General if he has received an influentially signed memorial dealing with the proposed abolition of the Hackballscross, county Louth, sub-post office; and whether it is proposed to retain this office?

Mr. PEASE

I will communicate with the hon. Member as soon as the inquiries are complete which I set on foot when he wrote to me recently, but I take this opportunity of explaining that it is now the practice on the occurrence of a vacancy at a rural sub-office to make no new appointment if the business done is small, and if there are reasonable facilities elsewhere for the persons who used the office.
