HC Deb 31 July 1916 vol 84 c2063
49. Major NEWMAN

asked whether Edgar Speyer, born educated, and resident at Frankfort-on-Main until 1887, and naturalised in 1892, left this country on the outbreak of hostilities; whether he has, since his departure, expressed a desire to be relieved of the dignity of a baronet of the United Kingdom, bestowed on him in 1906 on the recommendation of the late Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman, and to be removed from the list of His Majesty's Privy Council, to which he was sworn in 1909; and whether any technical difficulties exist that prevent this desire being granted?

The PRIME MINISTER

I must refer the hon. Member to the published correspondence between myself and Sir Edgar Speyer on this subject.

Major NEWMAN

Is there a single chance of Edgar Speyer ever coming back to this country?

Mr. REDDY

Will the same difficulties be removed in the case of Lord Milner? Also, can the right hon. Gentleman tell me what has become of Bosenbaum?
