HC Deb 31 July 1916 vol 84 c2037
2. Mr. WING

asked the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs if he will consider the advisability of seeking an arrangement or issuing orders whereby all the fishing vessels of neutral countries fishing in British or other waters protected by our Navy shall sell the whole of their catch in British markets?

Lord R. CECIL

Arrangements have been made to allow foreign fishing vessels to land their catch of fresh fish at certain ports in the United Kingdom, and further measures in the same direction are under consideration.

Mr. WING

Will future arrangements be with a view to making compulsory the sale of these fish in British markets?

Lord R. CECIL

I do not quite know what the hon. Member means by speaking of compulsory sale in British markets, but I shall be very glad to tell him exactly what we are doing in reference to Dutch fishing if he cares to speak to me.
