HC Deb 31 July 1916 vol 84 cc2042-3
11. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that Messrs. Edwards and Sons, the great dairy farmers of South London, raised their milk to 6d. per quart, and that during last week they have been going round in their motor car threatening the small milk vendors that they will get the small milksellers' supply stopped unless they put up the price of milk to 6d. per quart; is he aware that the agents are telling the milk sellers that it is the Board of Trade who have stepped in and stated that milk must not be sold at less than 6d. per quart; and if he intends taking any action in the matter?

Mr. HARCOURT

I am aware that an increase from 5d. to 6d. per quart was made in the district referred to in the question, on Sunday, 23rd July. I have caused careful inquiry to be made, but have failed to secure any confirmation of the remainder of the statements in the question.
