HC Deb 20 July 1916 vol 84 cc1291-2

Order for Second Reading read.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Bill be now read a second time."—[Mr. McKinnon Wood.]

Sir F. BANBURY

I suppose that it is necessary to provide this sum of £1,700,000, but it is a rather large sum at the present moment.

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. McKinnon Wood)

Yes. I think that it is necessary, as a maximum sum. It is only half what it was last year, and about a quarter of the sum which was provided before the War.

Question put, and agreed to.

Bill read a second time, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House for Monday next.—[Mr. Rea]

The remaining Orders were read, and postponed.
