HC Deb 20 July 1916 vol 84 cc1177-8
47. Mr. BUTCHER

asked the Prime Minister whether the final draft of the Bill for amending the Government of Ireland Act, 1914, has been submitted to the right ton. and learned Member for Dublin University and the hon. and learned Member for Waterford, and assented to by them, respectively; and, if not, whether it is the intention of the Government to submit the final draft of such Bill to those Gentlemen and to obtain their assent thereto before its introduction?

The PRIME MINISTER

As I stated yesterday, the Government have been and continue to be in communication with both the hon. Members referred to. Until the Bill is introduced I cannot make any more definite statement.

Mr. BUTCHER

Could not the right hon. Gentleman answer this definite question: Whether it is the intention of the Government to introduce this Bill without first securing the approval of the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Dublin University (Sir E. Carson) and the hon. and learned Member for Waterford (Mr. J. Redmond)?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am afraid that I cannot add anything to what I have said.
