HC Deb 18 July 1916 vol 84 cc824-5
36. Mr. REDDY

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that J. D. Ayres Mathers, of Delanes, Nairn, and at present at Falty Moor, Ballinasloe, left Scotland with a view to avoid serving in the Army; and what steps it is proposed to take to compel him to do his duty to his country?

Mr. SAMUEL

I understand that Mr. Mathers has been ordinarily resident at Failtia, Ballinasloe, for the past twenty-five years.

Mr. REDDY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this man has never lived in Ireland for six months at any time?

Mr. SAMUEL

The only information that I have is that which I have given to the hon. Member.

Mr. REDDY

Will the right hon. Gentleman take independent evidence and make this man do his duty?

Mr. SAMUEL

I shall be very glad indeed to consider any acts the hon. Member may be good enough to send me.

Mr. R. MCNEILL

Are there any other persons at Ballinasloe who are equally neglecting their duty?
