HC Deb 18 July 1916 vol 84 c835
37. Major NEWMAN

asked the Home Secretary whether he has any further news as to the conflicts between the police and public on the Mathers estate, county Galway; and whether the troops that were asked for have arrived and are assisting to restore order?

Mr. SAMUEL

There have been no further conflicts since the 4th instant on the estate in question. The troops have arrived and disorder has ceased. I understand that a settlement of the agrarian trouble has practically been arranged between the parties concerned.
