§ 67. Mr. THOMASasked the President of the Board of Trade whether an instruction has been issued by the War Office whereby railway companies are precluded from making any refund of fare on lost tickets during the period of Government control; and, if so, whether, in view of the injustice of a person being required to pay double fare for a railway journey, he will have this instruction withdrawn so as to enable the railway companies to revert to their former practice of refunding the extra fare in cases where satisfactory proof is forthcoming?
Mr. HARCOURTI understand that the War Office have issued an instruction on this subject in regard to soldiers travelling by rail. In the case of ordinary civilian passengers no alteration has, I am informed, been made in the companies' usual practice.
