§ 84. Mr. THOMASasked the Under-Secretary for War whether he is aware that No. 1565, Private J. E. Russell, of the 3rd Welsh Regiment, was recently tried by court martial for insubordination in connection with some trouble arising out of the quality and quantity of the food supplied to the men in camp, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour, and his wife and children are deprived of the separation allowance; and, in view of the length of the sentence and Russell's age, which is fifty-seven years, and of the fact that he had previously served twelve years in the Royal Marines, he will consider whether some mitigation of the punishment can be made?
§ Mr. TENNANTI will have inquiries made into this case.
