HC Deb 12 January 1916 vol 77 c1579
11. Mr. THOMAS-STANFORD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that certain cases of the theft of armlets have already been reported to the police; whether, in view of the importance of putting a stop to a practice which may have serious results, the Government will, by the offer of rewards or otherwise, use special endeavours to secure the apprehension of the offenders; and whether every possible step will be taken to prevent the spread of such offences?

Mr. TENNANT

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to the theft of armlets in the possession of individuals to whom they have been issued, and not to the theft of armlets in bulk out of Government possession. I had not been aware that such thefts were taking place, but if they are, it is, I think a matter for the police to deal with. I will consider whether the Defence of the Realm Regulations could be used in this connection.
