HC Deb 12 January 1916 vol 77 cc1600-1
53. Mr. PETO

asked the Prime Minister whether he has any information as to persons of Austrian or other enemy nationalities who are employed as pilots on the Suez Canal; and, if so, whether he will cause instructions to be given to the representatives of His Majesty's Government on the administrative council of the Suez Canal requesting that they will take whatever steps are possible in order that the services of these pilots shall forthwith be terminated?

Lord R. CECIL

I understand that the question of the employment of persons of Austrian and other enemy nationalities by the Suez Canal Company was considered at the beginning of the War by the competent authorities in Egypt. I am not aware whether any persons of enemy nationality are still employed, but I will make inquiries.
