§ 7. Sir E. CORNWALLasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many British civilians were in Germany at the outbreak of the War; how many were interned; how many have died in Germany; and how many have been released?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Lord Robert Cecil)It is obviously quite impossible to say how many British subjects were in Germany at the outbreak of war; some 5,000 civilians were eventually interned;. we have received information of the death of thirty-six persons; 398 are known to have been repatriated.
§ Mr. KINGHave any means been found available for protecting the property of British citizens in Germany while they are interned?
§ Lord R. CECILI do not think that that really arises out of this question. I shall be pleased to make inquiries if the hon. Member will put down a question.
