HC Deb 12 January 1916 vol 77 c1599
44. Mr. BOLAND

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether any, and, if so, what, contributions have been made during the past year to universities or agricultural colleges in England or Wales in connection with the effect of the War upon these institutions; and can he give particulars in each case?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Acland)

A maximum sum of £145,000 was voted for special grants to universities, etc., in respect of losses due to the War, especially in fees from male students who have enlisted. The final allocation of this sum has not yet been settled.

Mr. BOLAND

Can the right hon. Gentleman say what amount has been given to agricultural colleges as distinct from universities?

Mr. ACLAND

If the hon. Member will put down a further question I will answer it.

Mr. BOLAND

I will put another question down on Monday.
