HC Deb 11 January 1916 vol 77 cc1430-1
8. Mr. HODGE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if the Advisory Committee who are sitting to deal with appeals under Lord Derby's scheme are empowered to star a man in a trade where other men performing a similar class of work have been originally starred under the registration and Lord Derby's scheme?

Mr. TENNANT

If the Advisory Committee, acting in co-operation with the military representative, agree that a man who has not been starred, but who works in a starred occupation, is entitled to be starred, he should be treated as a starred man by the recruiting authorities. The local tribunal can also recommend that a man be starred, but such recommendation has to be referred to the Central Appeal Committee for confirmation.
