HC Deb 11 January 1916 vol 77 c1432
15. Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if he is aware that the firm of Messrs. F. Carwardine, of Hove, Brighton, who are making ammunition boxes, has introduced a system of piecework under which the workmen can only earn 6½d. or 7d. per hour, the standard rate for the district being 9d. per hour; and whether he will take steps to compel this firm to observe the Fair-Wages Clause or strike it off the list of firms that are asked to do work for the War Office?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MUNITIONS DEPARTMENT (Dr. Addison)

This matter is at present the subject of inquiry. I will communicate the result to my hon. Friend in due course.
