HC Deb 10 January 1916 vol 77 c1277
33. Mr. KING

asked in what way will defaulters and offenders under Military Service (No. 2) Bill be treated; and whether they will be dealt with by courts martial and liable; under the Army Act, to be shot as deserters?

Mr. TENNANT

My hon. Friend will be aware that the Military Service (No. 2) Bill gives to those who are under it deemed to have been enlisted the same rights and privileges in regard to the Group System as those who have presented themselves for enlistment before the Bill becomes law. I think I may state that the general intention is that the treatment of both categories shall be as uniform as possible in all respects, and not only as regards privileges. That is the reasonable and desirable position to adopt, and that is the position which should, I think, be adopted.
