HC Deb 10 January 1916 vol 77 c1266
15. Mr. RUPERT GWYNNE

asked the Postmaster-General if his attention has been called to the inconvenience caused by the long periods of delay in the delivery of the Canadian mails in this country, owing to the fact that they are often not put on shore at the first port reached in home waters but are kept on board until a certain port is reached and the ship emptied of her cargo: and whether he can see his way to expedite delivery by having the mails sent on shore at the first port reached?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Pike Pease)

The mails conveyed to this country by Canadian packets are, whenever possible, landed at the first port of call. In a few instances only has it proved necessary, in view of the requirements of the naval authorities, to carry the mails on to the port of destination?

Mr. GWYNNE

Will the hon. Gentleman see that, wherever possible, they are landed at the first port reached?

Mr. PEASE

I will refer to my right hon. Friend on the matter.
