HC Deb 10 January 1916 vol 77 cc1259-60
3. Sir E. CORNWALL

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he can make any statement as to the present position of Albania, and more especially with regard to its relationship with the Allies?

Lord R. CECIL

I regret that it is impossible to speak of Albania as an entity at the present moment. In the central area over which Essad Pasha's authority extends, the relations between the population and the Serbian troops have been friendly, and Essad Pasha has rendered valuable assistance to them. The northern tribes among whom the enemy have conducted considerable propaganda have shown hostility towards the Serbians and Montenegrins but none towards this country.
