HC Deb 06 January 1916 vol 77 cc1081-2
18. Sir A. MOND

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can state what is the estimate of the number of people employed in the export trade of the United Kingdom; what number of these are men, women, and young persons; and what number of the men are of military age?

Mr. PRETYMAN

It is not possible to state the number of persons some part of whose output is included in the goods exported from this country. The present volume of the export trade is estimated to be equivalent to the entire output of between a million and a million and a half of persons. A classification of these by age and sex cannot be made.
