HC Deb 06 January 1916 vol 77 c1103
83. Mr. G. TERRELL

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that in many agricultural districts the advisory committees consider it desirable in the interests of the economy of time of the persons concerned and in the interests of efficiency to appoint the political party agents to carry out the secretarial and clerical work of the committees; and whether in such cases, if it is demonstrated to be in the public interest that such appointments should be made, he will make arrangements for the employment and remuneration of the party agents in lieu of the representatives of a military authority?

Mr. TENNANT

I am reminded by my Noble Friend Lord Derby that the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee and the Labour Recruiting Committee, sitting together, passed a unanimous resolution against the employment of party agents as secretaries to the military representatives. If I am to be permitted to say so, I think that was a wise resolution.
