§ 7. Mr. PRINGLEasked the Under-Secretary for War whether, in view of the unofficial statements of the casualties in the Battle of Loos, he will now give the official figures?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Tennant)I will give the figures for the period from the 25th September to the 8th October, 1915, and for all the fighting on the Western front during that period. It is not possible to define with geographical exactitude the area within which the operations which my hon. Friend calls the Battle of Loos took place, and to divide the casualties occurring in those operations with precicision from the casualties arising from the simultaneous operations on other adjacent parts of the front. The figures are:—
The total casualties amongst officers is thus 2,378, and amongst other ranks 57,288. These figures include the returns for the Regular Army and Territorial Force, the Overseas Contingents and Indian Native Forces.
