Mr. MORRELLasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that in many cases hardship is being done by the refusal of the local tribunals to grant exemption from military service to the only son of a widowed mother; and whether, in view of the assurances given by the Prime Minister, by the Secretary of State for the Colonies and by himself during the passage of the Military Service Act, 1916, he will strengthen the instructions given to the local tribunals in this matter?
