HC Deb 23 February 1916 vol 80 c687
35. Sir J. D REES

asked what scale of remuneration has been sanctioned for sub-postmasters in respect of their War Loan work; and whether it works out to less than 1½d. per transaction without regard to the amounts involved?

Mr. PEASE

The scale of remuneration sanctioned is £6 per 1,000 applications for War Loan stock of £5 or a multiple thereof; £1 10s. per 1,000 Scrip vouchers or certificates either issued or received back in Exchange for stock. The remuneration for receiving direct applications for stock of £5 or a multiple thereof works out at rather less than 1½d. per transaction, which is about the average amount paid for receiving a Savings Bank deposit. I propose shortly to receive a deputation from the National Federation of Sub-Postmasters, who desire to make representations to me on this matter.
