HC Deb 23 February 1916 vol 80 c695
64. Mr. DUNCAN MILLAR

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether any steps have been taken by the Italian Government to employ the German merchant ships interned in Italian ports?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am glad to have an opportunity of correcting the misapprehension which exists with regard to the German ships interned in Italian ports. By the courtesy of the Italian Ambassador, I have been furnished with detailed lists giving the names of over thirty German ships which were interned and are now requisitioned by the Italian Government. The list shows the manner in which those ships are being employed.

Mr. HOGGE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when this requisition was made?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

No; it came some little time ago.
