HC Deb 22 February 1916 vol 80 cc564-5
45. Mr. KING

asked the Prime Minister whether it is intended to reintroduce the Military Service Bill which was left un-passed at the end of last Session?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

No, Sir, there is no present intention of reintroducing this Bill.

Mr. PRINGLE

Is it necessary? Will these men not come under the existing Military Service Act?

The PRIME MINISTER

I cannot add anything to the answer I have given.

Mr. AINSWORTH

Is the Government aware that hundreds of thousands of men who have given their services and are prepared to give their services to the country for Home defence are seriously affected by any delay on the part of the Government to deal with the question and give them a military status under the War Office?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, Sir.
