HC Deb 17 February 1916 vol 80 cc218-9
10. Mr. GILBERT

asked the Home Secretary whether he has had any reports from the police showing that a number of men, military and naval, have been drugged in a certain district in South London; and will he arrange, in the interests of home and overseas men serving in His Majesty's Forces, that special police protection be placed in this district so as to prevent any further cases of this kind?

Mr. SAMUEL

Inquiry has been made by the police respecting cases of alleged drugging alleged to have occurred in South London and elsewhere, but no evidence has been forthcoming inconsistent with the view that the symptoms were produced by the drinking of strong spirits. The administering of drugs is a criminal offence, but no single case has been substantiated on investigation.
