HC Deb 14 December 1916 vol 88 c850
102. Mr. HOUSTON

asked why the steamer "Canning" has been lying in Liverpool since the 28th August, 1916?

Dr. MACNAMARA

She is being fitted for service. I have satisfied myself that there has been no undue delay.

Mr. HOUSTON

In view of the recent evidence as to the very great need of this vessel for the purposes for which it is intended could not the work have been very considerably accelerated? I should also like to know whether the vessel has been purchased by the Government!

Dr. MACNAMARA

Yes. The ship has been purchased and I have satisfied myself that no undue delay has taken place.
