HC Deb 14 December 1916 vol 88 c860
77. Mr. KING

asked the Prime Minister whether, under the arrangement by which the Chancellor of the Exchequer is to act as Leader of this House, no questions should be addressed to the Prime Minister, but only to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, who will answer with authority all questions which would, in the ordinary course, be directed to the Prime Minister?

Mr. BONAR LAW

It will, I think, meet the general convenience of the House, and it will certainly be more convenient to the Treasury, if hon. Members will continue to address their questions to the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, respectively, as they have done in the past, but on the understanding that questions addressed to the Prime Minister will be answered by me, as Leader of the House.

Mr. SWIFT MacNEILL

Are we to understand that the Prime Minister and the Leader of the House have running powers on each other's lines?
