HC Deb 12 December 1916 vol 88 c795
Mr. SPEAKER

In reference to the long list of questions which appear on the Paper to-day, I would venture to suggest that, as I understand the Under-Secretaries of the new Government have not yet been appointed and that the Government have hardly yet had time to consider as a Government the answers which they might wish to give to the questions, the better course would be to allow Government Departments to hand in any replies. At the same time, any hon. Members who wish to postpone their questions until Thursday will, of course, be entitled to do so by giving notice at the Table. Otherwise I think the House will hardly expect me to go through the long list, to a great number of which answers cannot be given owing to the absence of the responsible Ministers.
