§ 58. Mr. WILKIE
asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that last winter, while the 3rd and 4th Battalions of the Tyneside Scottish Brigade were stationed at Warminster, the men were given a few days' leave and were informed that their fares would be paid; that, as some of the men had already paid cash for their fares, they were informed that the money would be refunded; that correspondence has been taking place with the War Office, the commanding officers, and the Paymaster, Southern 1858 Command, ever since last January, and that up to the present a settlement of the matter appears to be as far off as ever; and whether he will take steps to have the matter expedited?
§ Mr. FORSTER
The investigation of the claims has been rather difficult, but I hope that the matter will be adjusted very shortly now.
