HC Deb 08 August 1916 vol 85 cc858-9
41. Sir E. CORNWALL

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Crown Colonies will be given an individual opportunity of expressing their views at the coming Imperial Conference on the Paris Economic Resolutions?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The Resolutions are being communicated to the Colonies generally, but I think that the suggestion of the hon. Member is impracticable.

60. Mr. R. MCNEILL

asked the Prime Minister whether legislation will be necessary to give effect to the agreement between the Allies, arrived at in the Paris Economic Conference, to conserve for the allied countries before all others their natural resources during the whole period of reconstruction; if so, when it is proposed to introduce such legislation; and if he will say what are the special arrangements which will be made to facilitate the interchange of these resources?

The PRIME MINISTER

It is not practicable to make a general statement on this question, as the steps necessary to give effect to the recommendation of the Paris Conference will probably vary with each commodity. The whole question is being examined by Lord Balfour's Committee. It is quite possible that legislation may be necessary in certain cases.
