HC Deb 08 August 1916 vol 85 cc859-60
44. Sir W. BYLES

asked the Home Secretary whether he has now acquired further information as to the case of Mr. Bandock, who was fined £10 at the Hyde Police Court on 30th June for a speech in which he advocated that peace should be secured by negotiation; and whether he has been able to recommend that the fine be remitted?

Mr. SAMUEL

I have now received a report of the facts of this case, and find that the speech was of a very different character from that suggested in the question. I regret that I do not feel able to recommend any reduction of the penalty imposed on the defendant.
