HC Deb 08 August 1916 vol 85 cc833-4
Mr. R. THOMPSON

I desire to present a petition to this House on behalf of "a War Time Council on Drink, and National Efficiency," whose headquarters are in the city of Belfast. This petition has been signed by 115,110 persons, of sixteen years of age and upwards, and represents the leaders of thought in Belfast and throughout Ulster generally, as well as the industrial classes. The petition prays that the country may unite in emulating the noble example of our gracious King by abstaining from the sale or use of all intoxicating liquors during the remainder of the War, and for six months after.
