Mr. CLYNESasked the Postmaster-General whether he has yet been able to consider the petition submitted to him by the temporary male sorting clerks in Manchester in which they explain that the maximum wages of 30s. with 3s. war bonus are quite inadequate for meeting the daily necessities of a section of public servants most of whom are married men with families to maintain; and whether, in view of the pressure of high food prices and as overtime work, which previously increased the men's pay, has been nearly abolished, he can now give a favourable reply to the appeal for advanced wages?
§ The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. J. Pease)The position is being dealt with as part of a general question under the consideration of the Government; and meanwhile no reply can be given to applications for higher wages from particular sections of the staff.
