HC Deb 02 August 1916 vol 85 cc305-6
55. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Prime Minister if he will grant facilities to discuss the Motion standing in the name of the Member for the Harbour Division of Dublin. ["That the suspension of the hon. Member for North Westmeath from his Parliamentary duties do cease from this date."]

The PRIME MINISTER

I am afraid that unless there is a general desire to the contrary I cannot undertake to grant facilities for this Motion before the Adjournment.

Mr. BYRNE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the great loss Ireland has sustained through the absence of the hon. Member for North Westmeath? Having regard to that fact, will he give an early day to discuss the Motion?

The PRIME MINISTER

The hon. Member was suspended for gross disrespect to the Chair. He ought to apologise for that disrespect before his reinstatement is considered.

Mr. BYRNE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the insults which the hon. Member for North Westmeath has received in this House?

Mr. OUTHWAITE

Is not the Prime Minister aware that before the recent incident occurred there was a supplementary question of a grossly insulting character with regard to the hon. Member for North Westmeath?
