HC Deb 02 August 1916 vol 85 cc311-2
86. Mr. MARTIN

asked the Minister of Munitions if the use of the Ross rifle has been discontinued at the front as being unfit; whether General Alderson reported against this rifle some time ago; whether lives have been lost by the use of this rifle after its unfitness was known to the military authorities; and whether he can give a list of the shareholders of the company manufacturing the Ross rifle in Canada?

Mr. FORSTER

The military authorities in France have been asked for information on the points raised in the first three parts of the question. I have been unable to obtain information as to the names of the shareholders of the company manufacturing the Ross rifle in Canada.

Sir A. MARKHAM

Would the hon. Gentleman refer to a report which his predecessor presented to the House about eighteen months ago dealing with all the points referred to in this question when my hon. Friend was taking a holdiay?

Mr. MARTIN

That is not so at all. There is no truth in the remark.

Sir A. MARKHAM

You drew your salary, at all events.

Mr. MARTIN

Never mind about my salary; that is a matter for my constituents.
