§ Mr. GLYN-JONESI beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer a question, of which I have given him private notice, namely: Whether he has considered the representations made to him regarding the practical difficulties in the way of re-stamping by to-morrow the existing stocks of articles liable to the Patent Medicines Stamp Duty, and whether he is prepared to make any announcement on the subject.
§ Mr. McKENNAThe Commissioners of Customs and Excise have, by my direction, discussed this matter with the representatives of the trade, and have reported to me that in their opinion a good case has been made out for postponing the operation of the new duty. I propose to ask the House to-morrow to agree to its postponement until the 20th of October.
