HC Deb 23 September 1915 vol 74 cc556-7
21. Mr. CURRIE

asked the Minister of Munitions whether, following upon an informal inquiry, by t he Board of Trade and the Admiralty some months ago, certain workers employed by Messrs. Brunton, wireworkers, Musselburgh, Midlothian, received an increase of wages; whether this business is now a controlled establishment; whether the wages now paid are subject to his control; whether the firm is at present engaging, or endeavouring to engage, munition workers at the rate of 5d. per hour; how many men and how many women have been secured at this rate; and whether it was fixed at so high a level so as to enable workmen to face the increased cost of living and effectively support the national thrift campaign?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MUNITIONS DEPARTMENT (Dr. Addison)

My right hon. Friend has not full information on the subject, but he is inquiring into the matter, and will let the hon. Member know the result.
