§ 50. Mr. BARNESasked the Prime Minister if he has been made aware that the rents of small-house property in Glasgow have been increased during the War in sums ranging from £1 to £3 per annum; that over a thousand tenants have refused or are unable to pay the increases; that factors have issued summonses of ejectment taking effect on the 28th September; and, in view of this condition of things, will the Government now take action to restrain landlords from increasing rents, or evicting tenants for non-payment of rack rents, for the period of the War?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI can only refer to the answer I gave on 14th September to the Member for East Edinburgh.
§ Mr. BARNESIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the latter part of the question has not been covered by the previous answer?
§ The PRIME MINISTERThat is covered by my assurance that the matter is being very carefully watched.
§ Mr. ROWLANDSIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the same thing is 562 taking place in all the districts where munition workers are employed, and that they have had to leave their houses because rents were raised, and there will be no dwellings for the munition workers in those districts?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI should be very glad if the hon. Member would furnish me with particulars.
