HC Deb 22 September 1915 vol 74 cc442-3
22. Sir G. SCOTT ROBERTSON

asked the Secretary of State for India, whether he is aware that, in the Indian medical service, there are Indian gentlemen commissioned as colonels, majors, captains, and lieutenants, and that some of these gentlemen are now serving in France; is he aware that no Indian gentleman of the fighting branches of the Indian Army now serving in France or at the Dardanelles can ever aspire to such commissioned rank and title; and will he consider the advisability of giving them a similar opportunity of obtaining commissioned rank?

Mr. C. ROBERTS (Comptroller of the Household)

I am not in a position to add to the reply I gave the hon. Member to a similar question on the 14th July.

Sir G. SCOTT ROBERTSON

Does the hon. Gentleman admit the absurdity of this anomaly?

Mr. ROBERTS

I think the Secretary of State is not in a position to alter it.
