HC Deb 21 September 1915 vol 74 cc329-30
90. Colonel YATE

asked the Secretary of State for India whether the medal rolls of the officers and men of the Royal Indian Marine, who took part in the operations for the suppression of the arms traffic in the Persian Gulf during the years 1909 to 1914, have now been completed, with the view to the grant to them of the naval general service medal lately sanctioned by His Majesty in recognition of those services?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The Government of India have not yet furnished the rolls of officers and men of the Royal Indian Marine whom they recommend for the medal. The question of eligibility will be determined by the Admiralty on consideration of the information contained in the rolls.

Colonel YATE

Will the right hon. Gentleman kindly impress upon the Admiralty the rights of the officers and men of the Royal Indian Marine to participate in the grant of this medal?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I will see that the Admiralty have all the facts before them.
