HC Deb 15 September 1915 vol 74 cc37-8
2. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Minister of Munitions how many munition volunteers are now employed on munition work?

The MINISTER of MUNITIONS (Mr. Lloyd George)

We found on investigation that the great majority of War muni- tion volunteers were engaged on munition work. The number transferred from their previous work to munition work by order of the Minister of Munitions is about 5,000. The great bulk of the remainder were either engaged on munition work or other work essential to the national interest at the time of enrolment, or have been placed on such work since enrolment.
