§ 9. Mr. HOGGEasked the Secretary for Scotland whether he will state for the last complete school year the number of schools where Gaelic is taught, the amount of Grant paid per pupil, the number of said pupils, the number of teachers, and the amount of special Grant to the same?
Mr. McKINNON WOODIn the last complete school year for which figures were available the additional Grant for Gaelic under Article 19, B.7, of the Code was paid to eighty-one schools with an aggregate average attendance of 3,311, and the Grant of £10 in respect of Gaelic-speaking teachers under Section 17 (9) of the Education (Scotland) Act, 1908, was paid to 163 schools. There were also twelve classes in Gaelic, with a total of 275 students, recognised for Grant under the Continuation Class Code. These figures relate as a rule to the school years ending during 1914.
