HC Deb 14 September 1915 vol 74 c12
14. Mr. KING

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he has considered the operation upon junior servants resulting from keeping in their posts senior public servants in Government employment after the latter have attained the age entitling them to pensions; whether he is aware that junior servants are thus prejudicially affected not only in pay and advancement but in their rights in respect of gratuities and pensions; and whether this case is having the attention of the Treasury?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Montagu)

The circumstances to which my hon. Friend calls attention have not been overlooked, but under present conditions such considerations must be subordinated to the urgent need for economy in administration.

Mr. PETO

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether, since in another place in June last a resolution providing for retirement at sixty-five was adopted it is proposed to apply that rule to officers in this House?

Mr. MONTAGU

I must have notice of that question. I do not think it arises out of this question.
