HC Deb 14 September 1915 vol 74 cc11-2
12. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Minister of Munitions whether any counter attractions to the drink traffic have been set up in any of the areas scheduled by the Board of Control; and, if so, where and of what nature?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MUNITIONS DEPARTMENT (Dr. Addison)

The Central Control Board (Liquor Traffic) are encouraging the provision of canteens for munition and transport workers. A considerable number of employers have themselves provided canteens. Approved organisations have forty canteens in working, and are in process of establishing thirty more, while a still larger number are in contemplation. The canteens are of various character; some provide solid meals, others light refreshment. At some works hostels have been established, some of which provide food and recreation.

Mr. HOGGE

Is the Board of Control not going to attempt to set up any kind of counter attraction than canteens?

Dr. ADDISON

Yes; my reply indicates that other counter attractions are set up.
