HC Deb 20 October 1915 vol 74 cc1795-6
55. Mr. PETO

asked the Prime Minister whether, with a view to economising the national resources available for the prosecution of the War, he will appoint a Joint Committee of the two Houses of Parliament, to take evidence and report on the allegations of waste and extravagance in the expenditure for housing, maintaining, and equipping those portions of His Majesty's Army stationed in this country?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

For reasons which my right hon. Friend gave in the House on 20th July it is not possible to adopt the hon. Member's suggestion. Every effort has been made and is being made to avoid unnecessary expenditure in the directions indicated in the question.
