HC Deb 13 October 1915 vol 74 c1282
7. Mr. KING

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether he is aware of the stocks of maize in hand in the Union of South Africa; and whether any steps are being taken to make these stocks available for Home purposes?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Acland)

The Board are aware that a considerable quantity of maize is available in South Africa for export, and arrangements are being made, as far as is practicable, for its shipment to this country.

Mr. KING

Does that mean that special rates are being arranged so that a special ship or shipping will be sent to South Africa?

Mr. ACLAND

I will inform the hon. Member privately, in detail, of what we propose to do.
